Part of Lee Abbey Devon

At the Beacon, we have a range of 11 adventure activities which we provide according to your preferences, our availability and time of year.

Estate walk

Estate Walk

Start your residential by walking around our beautiful estate and learn about the wonders within! After your journey, this is a stimulating activity which provides fresh air and the ability to find your bearings.

Girl climbing

Climbing

Climbing sessions offer participants the chance to challenge themselves individually as well as support one another as part of a team. Our indoor climbing wall has routes to test different levels of climber. In small groups of 3-6 participants take turns to climb, and whilst waiting, group belay the climber.

Boy doing archery

Archery

Our Archery GB qualified instructors start with a step-by-step demonstration which is then followed by individual guided shooting for their first arrows. Those taking part use bows and arrows appropriate to their size and strength and must follow the enforced safety protocols in the archery range. Throughout the session, the skills learnt are put to use in friendly and fun games and competitions.

Crate stack

Crate Stack

This high rope challenge involves teamwork, trust and an element of competition. Participants work in pairs to try build the highest tower, with another pair on the ground passing up crates and the rest of the group belaying. We’ve seen up to 14 crates high- can your group do better?

Low Ropes

Low Ropes

Our hexagonal course is equipped to encourage effective communication and teamwork as well as physical agility. With multiple aspects to the course, we tailor the session to the group’s needs

Nightline

Nightline

With one hand on a rope, the other on a teammate’s shoulder and a blindfold in place, participants make their way through a surprising route, going under, over and through various obstacles. This session develops awareness of senses, builds trust and works on communication.

Bushcraft

Bushcraft

Discover our very own temperate rainforest and the range of plants and trees within. After a leisurely walk, learn the skills of fire building and top off the session by roasting and eating a marshmallow (vegan marshmallows are available).

Zip wire

Zipwire

Take in views of our 280-acre estate whilst soaring 140m across the wooded valley. The zipwire offers an energising experience which boosts individual confidence and is a great opportunity for group support

Orienteering

Orienteering

Explore our vast estate whilst developing map reading skills. Tips and tricks are given before small groups of 3-5 are sent out to navigate their way to each marker. Within this session, we include games and activities to encourage problem solving and teamwork.

Discovery games

Discovery games

From ducks and pipes to tangram puzzles, we have multiple engaging activities to encourage teamwork and hone problem solving skills. Discovery games may be used within a daytime session or in an evening in case the weather prevents our scheduled activity.

Fire

We love to end each residential with a roaring fire either on our own private beach or by our firepit with stunning views. This provides an opportunity for reflection on your time with us and another roasted marshmallow!
